Frequently Asked Questions (if you are a consumer, click
here)
Question: Why should I
use a collection agency?
Answer: Many debtors
will pay a collection
agency even though they
never cooperated with
the original creditor.
Once an account is
placed in collections,
debtors often realize
they are about to damage
their credit ratings or
to go to court,
therefore it is often
possible for the agency
to collect when the
client was not able to.
Question: Why should we
trust you with our
business?
Answer: We have the
IPS Unfair
Advantage! Try
us out, and only stay if
you are satisfied with
the results. We are
members of the
Association of Credit
and Collection
Professionals (ACA),
The Better Business
Bureau (BBB),
The Michigan Association
of Collection Agencies (MACA)
and are bonded and
licensed in the states
we operate in. And we
have the resources and
experience to collect on
your bad debts.
Question: I am not in
Michigan or Florida. Is that a
problem?
Answer: In most
cases, we can still help
you. Please call us to
confirm that you are in
a state that allows us
jurisdiction to collect.
Question: Are your rates
competitive?
Answer: Absolutely.
While there are some
agencies who will work
for pennies, keep in
mind that you get what
you pay for. We have
experienced people
working your accounts in
a consistent,
professional manner. The
discount agencies depend
on less effective (but
cheaper) techniques and
hope to replace
unsatisfied clients with
volume. We do not work
that way.
Question: Do I need to
sign a contract to do
business with your firm?
Answer: Yes, a
contract is necessary
and a good business
practice to spell out
the responsibilities of
both parties.
However, our contract
does not lock you in to
any time or exclusivity
commitments.
Question: How long will
it take for you to
collect my money?
Answer: The age of
the debt plays a part in
how long it may take to
collect anything. The
older and larger the
debt, the longer it may
take. Ideally, we like
to get your money within
60-90 days, but of
course each case is
unique and the time it
takes varies widely. Not
all claims are
collectible as some
debtors may file chapter
7 bankruptcy, become
deceased or just refuse
to pay.
Question: When and how
do I get my money once
it is collected?
Answer: Any money
collected on behalf of
clients is remitted
during the first half of
the month following
recovery via our trust
account.
Question: What if the
debtor disputes the debt
or just refuses to pay?
Answer: If the
debtor disputes the
debt, we will provide
them with documentation
from you to prove the
validity of the debt. If
that fails, the account
will be reviewed to
explore all possible
options, and if
litigation is feasible,
you will be consulted to
determine the next
steps. We will stay with
you throughout the
process and do whatever
we can to facilitate the
recovery of your money.
Accounts in dispute
are still reported to
the credit bureaus.
Question: Does the age
of the debt make it more
difficult to collect?
Answer: Yes, the
older a debt is, the
harder it is to collect.
We strongly recommend
not waiting more than 90
or 120 days to submit
accounts for collection.
Question: How do I place
accounts with you for
collection?
Answer: IPS can
accept accounts in a
variety of ways: mail,
fax, disc and email. We
can take a file
generated by your system
or provide you with a
spreadsheet template to
fill in with your
accounts. |
